Mobile Teams Save Over 21.000 Children from the Street


Mobile teams within the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services have ensured that 21.713 children who are employed on the street, beg and could not participate in education have been rescued from this environment.

The Ministry actively continues its activities with the principle of "zero tolerance for child labour" within the framework of the "National Program for Combating Child Labour".

Increasing the number of mobile teams to 139 in 81 provinces in the last two years, the Ministry has touched the lives of thousands of children who work on the street, especially in disadvantaged areas, beg and absent from school, who are at risk of neglect or abuse, or pushing to crime.

A total of 21.713 children have been reached so far, through the activities carried out by teams of experts on the streets in 81 provinces. Children and their families have been brought together with suitable social service models for them.

5.877 families have been provided with social and economic support for their children

As a result of the activities of mobile teams, children who have been forced to work on the streets due to financial difficulties and whose education life has been interrupted for this reason have been provided with Social and Economic Support (SED) service.

Accordingly, SED service has been initiated to be provided to 5.877 families on the condition that they send their children to school regularly and do not force them to work on the street.

In addition, a total of 13.129 children have been provided with guidance service in order to direct children who complete their school period to vocational education, to treat those with substance addiction, and to get children from the street and benefit from psychosocial support services.

1.836 Children Breaking Out of Education Return to School

Mobile teams have enabled the families as well as children to benefit from health, education and social services. Measures for education, guidance and counseling have been taken for 5.487 children.

1.836 school-age children of who have been detected not to attend school because of working on the street have also returned to school.

Ministry experts, acting in coordination with the guidance units of the schools, regularly monitor whether these children attend school or not, and their education and school success.

504 Children Taken Under Legal Protection

Within the scope of examinations for children and their families, 504 children who have been detected to be facing different risks other than economic deprivation have been taken under protection and care in institutions affiliated to the Ministry.

Judicial Proceedings Against Family of 891 Children

Families are also interviewed to determine the needs of their children, and as a result of the examinations, the necessary support mechanisms are implemented. Children whose problems have been eliminated are followed up regularly in the family and school environment in order not to repeat similar problems and to monitor their development. Families are reminded that it is a crime to employ their children on the street and that if this is repeated, judicial procedure will be initiated against them. As a result of the follow-ups made so far, judicial proceedings have been initiated against the families of 891 children.
