Minister Göktaş: " Income support payments for free urban transportation for the persons with disabilities and older persons continue"
Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş stated that the monthly income support payments made to the owners of urban private public transportation buses and sea transportation vehicles carrying persons with disabilities and older citizens free of charge continued and said, "As the Ministry, we will continue with our services that we have determined with a rights-based approach in order to support the equal, full and non-discriminatory participation of every individual, especially persons with disabilities and older citizens, in social life."
Stating that the transportation of older persons aged 65 and over benefiting from the right to transportation free of charge and persons with disabilities with a disability report of 40 percent or more was regulated by law, Minister Göktaş reminded that the monthly income support payments made by the Ministry of Family and Social Services to the owners of urban private public buses and sea transportation vehicles carrying persons with disabilities and older citizens free of charge were increased by 50 percent as of July 1, 2023. Minister Göktaş said, "Accordingly, the payment we make for each private maritime transportation vehicle providing urban public transportation services increased to 3.375 TL, and the support we provide for each transportation vehicle providing urban public transportation services in Ankara and Istanbul increased to 4.500 TL. In other metropolitan cities, the support we provide for urban public transportation vehicles has been increased to 3.375 TL, and in provinces without metropolitan municipalities, the support we provide for urban public transportation vehicles has been increased to 2.700 TL."
Minister Göktaş stated that the monthly income support payments made to the owners of urban private public buses and sea transportation vehicles carrying persons with disabilities and older citizens free of charge continued and said:
"As the Ministry, we have made 1.740.000.000 TL income support payments for persons with disabilities and older persons within the scope of transportation free of charge practices since 2015. We have expanded the understanding of social work to include older persons, persons with disabilities and all segments of society. As the Ministry, we will continue the services we have determined with a rights-based approach in order to support the equal, full and non-discriminatory participation of all individuals, especially persons with disabilities and older citizens, in social life. We will continue to provide the necessary support for persons with disabilities and the older persons to benefit from public transportation opportunities in the city free of charge.”
