Minister of Family and Social Services Göktaş: "Last year, the Ministry transferred 1.340.000 TL to sheltered workplaces"


Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş said, "Last year, the Ministry allocated 1.340.000 TL to sheltered workplaces in order to support the employment of citizens with mental and psychological disabilities in the private sector."

Minister Göktaş stated that the Ministry carried out studies to increase the employment opportunities of persons with disabilities and reminded that the sheltered workplaces model was implemented in 2016 within the scope of policies supporting the participation of persons with disabilities in social life as productive and independent individuals.
Göktaş said that persons with mental or psychological disabilities of at least 40% could work in sheltered workplaces, where the Ministry supported not only financially but also technically, where working environments were specially organized according to the needs of persons with disabilities, and stated that these workplaces had to employ a minimum of 5 persons with disabilities with the specified characteristics in order to receive government support.
Minister Göktaş said:
"Sheltered workplaces enable citizens with mental and psychological disabilities to be employed and stay in business life for a long time by focusing on their interests, talents and skills in cooperation with the private sector. The employer of the workplace where at least 5 persons with mental or psychological disabilities work and the ratio of the number of persons with disabilities to the total number of employees is not less than 50% can apply to the Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services to gain sheltered workplace status."

Support has increased to 2,811 TL.
Minister Göktaş noted that while the Ministry provided 1.840 TL monthly support to sheltered workplaces for each employee with disabilities in 2022, it was increased to 2.811 TL in 2023 and said, "Last year, the Ministry allocated 1.340.000 TL to sheltered workplaces in order to support the employment of citizens with mental and psychological disabilities in the private sector. We provided a total of 3.965.000 TL support for persons with disabilities working in these workplaces since 2016, when sheltered workplaces started to be established."

What are Sheltered Workplaces?
Sheltered Workplace is defined as a workplace that is technically and financially supported by the government in order to create employment for persons with mental or psychological disabilities who are difficult to integrate into the open labor market and whose working environment is specially organized. Those with at least 40% of mental or psychological disabilities can work in sheltered workplaces. At least 5 persons with disabilities with the specified characteristics must work in the sheltered workplace.
