Beyaz Baston Persons with Visual Impairment Week Awareness Program Held


An awareness program was held within the scope of the Beyaz Baston Persons with Visual Impairment Week, in cooperation with our Ministry, the Turkish White Crescent Association and Üsküdar Municipality.

Full and effective participation in social life is at the core of the policies developed and services provided for persons with disabilities to realize their personal potential. White canes, which enable visually impaired individuals to travel safely and independently, are seen as an international and important symbol in this context. In the program organized on January 15, 2023 as part of the Beyaz Baston Persons with Visual Impairment Week, successful persons with visual impairments and their families were brought together.

 Within the scope of the program persons with visual impairments who stood out with their success in different fields such as bureaucracy, academia, civil society and music gave their speeches and performances.

At the program where Kerim and Selim ALTINOK Eyüp Sultan AYLAR and Üsküdar Municipality Choir performed their musical performances, Turkish White Crescent Organization President Lokman AYVA and Deputy Mayor of Üsküdar Zekeriya ŞANLIER talked about the activities carried out and diversified in the field of disability in our country in civil society and local governments, and how much progress has been made in this area.

Dr. Selahattin AYDIN and Teacher Hamdi BATMAN expressed the active participation of persons with visual impairments in social life with their speeches based on their experiences as academics and teachers in the field of education.

In her closing speech, our Director General explained the policies and services developed in the field of disability in the last 20 years in our country and once again emphasized the importance of the studies carried out in this context. She stated that for a rights-based, socially inclusive Türkiye, it is essential for the welfare of all segments of society to diversify and disseminate studies in the field of disability.

The program ended with the presentation of plaques and awards to persons with visual impairments who have excelled in different fields by our Director General.
