The 3rd Ordinary General Assembly of Öz Sağlık-İş Union affiliated to Hak-İş Confederation was held on 20 November 2021, with the participation and speech of General Director of Services for Persons with Disabilities and Elderly, Spc. Dr. Orhan KOÇ.
To The 3rd Ordinary General Assembly of Öz Sağlık-İş Union Mahmut ARSLAN, President of Hak-İş, Öz Sağlık-İş Union Chairman, Devlet SERT, Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Security, Faruk ÖZÇELİK, and General Director of Services for Persons with Disabilities and Elderly, Spc. Dr. Orhan Koç attended along with bureaucrats from some public institutions, managers of Hak-İş and affiliated unions, non-governmental organizations, union representatives from various foreign countries, and members of the press.
Spc. Dr. Orhan KOÇ: We Achieved Transformation in Health and Social Services in 20 Years
Invited to the lectern within the scope of the protocol speeches, General Director of Services for the Persons with Disabilities and Elderly, Spc. Dr. Orhan KOÇ conveyed the greetings of the Minister of Family and Social Services Derya YANIK to the congress participants and started his speech by thanking those present in the congress hall. He said that for 30 years in his medical career, they have been working with health personnel at almost every stage of the health sector, sometimes they have kept watch together, sometimes they have fought together against violence shoulder to shoulder.
During the years he worked in the bureaucracy, they were together in the fields of workplace health, both while working in the Ministry of Health, during the period of the Vice Presidency of the Social Security Institution and the General Directorate of Occupational Health and Safety. He stated that they are all together and that they have achieved a transformation in health in 20 years.
Stating that human resources are under every success, General Director of Persons with Disabilities and Elderly, Spc. Dr. Orhan KOÇ said that although the number of employees in the field they serve is half, the staff are working with great devotion during the pandemic period, despite the fact that there are problems in the care of the elderly and persons with disabilities in many countries, it is not seen in Türkiye, they are appreciated by international organizations, and that the personnel working with devotion carried out the social services revolution in the social field.
Spc. Dr. Orhan KOÇ: We Trusted Field Workers While Establishing Social Loyalty Support Groups
Emphasizing that they always trust themselves, that they move from dormitory-type service areas to home-type service areas, and that they produce successful services with a right-based service understanding with a small number of personnel, Spc. Dr. Orhan KOÇ explained that they trusted field workers while establishing Social Loyalty Support Groups, which set an example to the whole world, so that our elderly people over the age of 65 are not victimized by providing their basic needs in the curfew application during the pandemic process we live with.
He stated that they broke new ground in the field of social services, that 85 million of the whole society came together in the pandemic, that although the infrastructure of our organizations was not ready, they brought the principle of volunteerism in the organizations and the measures taken were implemented by the employees in an epic way and they held their heads high.
Saying that they owe this success to them, General Director of Services for the Persons with Disabilities and Elderly Spc. Dr. Orhan KOÇ thanked the employees one by one and concluded his speech by saying “We are with you, we are trying to be a part of the solution, you are our stakeholders, and you are real heroes”.
