Refreshment Universities Provide Training to 5,665 People


At 6 Refreshment Universities across Türkiye, 5,665 people attend both theoretical and practical courses such as laboratory studies, seminars and workshops.
The "60+ Refreshment University Project", which is one of the main studies carried out within the scope of lifelong learning with the perspective of active and healthy aging, by the General Directorate of Services for Persons with Disabilities and the Elderly, of the Ministry of Family and Social Services, supports the active and healthy ageing of those aged 60 and over.
Individuals aged 60 and over receive education within the framework of programs created specifically for their needs, with educational structures operating at Akdeniz University, Ege University, Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, Anadolu University and University of Kyrenia, which are referred to as "third age universities" in the literature.
Free service is provided at the refreshment universities, which were initiated as a social responsibility project based on volunteerism. Although the age group is flexible, in general, every individual over the age of 60 can apply to the Refreshment University.
Courses mainly consist of anatomy and law
A total of 5,665 people are trained in 6 Refreshment Universities across Türkiye. With refreshment universities, old persons are prepared for the biological, sociological and psychological change processes that come with old age.
The application consists of a 4-year adult education model with theoretical and applied courses, laboratory studies, seminars and workshops within the framework determined by the campuses.
Courses mainly consist of anatomy and law. In addition, exercises are carried out in the early hours under the supervision of associate professors who are experts in the field of gerontology.
Cooperation protocol signed with 5 more universities
With the dissemination of the 60+ Age Refreshment University application, lifelong learning, supporting digital transformation and participation in social life are supported, and the foundations of mechanisms that will strengthen the phenomenon of active and healthy ageing are laid.
A cooperation protocol was also signed with Malatya Turgut Özal University, Sivas Cumhuriyet University, Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University, Muş Alparslan University and Yüksek İhtisas University in order to expand the application in universities across the country.
It is aimed to sign protocols with more universities in the 2021-2022 academic year.
