Our Minister Derya YANIK: “We Will Open 23 Nursing Homes with a Total Capacity of 2,320 until the end of 2023”
Our Minister of Family and Social Services, Derya YANIK, stating that as of September 2021, 163 nursing homes with a capacity of 16 thousand 509 under the ministry provided services to approximately 14 thousand people said: "We will open 23 more nursing homes with a total capacity of 2 thousand 320 until the end of 2023."
While the ratio of the population over the age of 65, defined as "elderly", to the entire population in Turkey is 9.5 percent, it is estimated that the ratio of the elderly population will be 11 percent in 2025, 12.9 percent in 2030, 16.3 percent in 2040, 22.6 percent in 2060, and 25.6 in 2080. Based on this anticipation, the Ministry carries out many studies in order to expand home care and day care services for the elderly, and to focus on policies that support the care of the elderly with their families.
Derya YANIK, Minister of Family and Social Services, said that as a ministry, supporting the elderly in all aspects of life and ensuring that they lead a peaceful, happy, safe and healthy life in a family environment is their primary duty. Minister YANIK said: “As of September 2021, 163 nursing homes with a capacity of 16 thousand 509 provide service to approximately 14 thousand people. In addition, 2,400 elderly people are cared for in 267 private nursing homes with a capacity of 17,508, 21 nursing homes with a capacity of nearly 11 thousand, and other public institutions with a capacity of 3 thousand.
“It is aimed to increase the number of elderly people whose lives are touched by the services provided”
Minister Yanık stating that it is aimed to increase the number of institutions affiliated to the Ministry providing daytime service and the number of elderly people whose lives are touched by the services provided, said: “In this context, 301 elderly people are actively provided with day care services in 32 organizations that currently provide daytime services. Elderly day care centres, which enable healthy elderly people who live at home with their families, relatives or alone to enjoy their spare time, provide support services to the elderly in their daily living activities, increase their activities and increase the quality of life of the elderly.”

Minister YANIK emphasizing that they will continue to serve the needs of the elderly in nursing homes and care institutions in the most appropriate way, said: “While all the expenses of the elderly people who do not have financial means and stay in nursing homes affiliated to the ministry are covered by the state, 3 thousand 916 people receive free care services in this context. In addition, by the end of 2023, we will open 23 nursing homes with a total capacity of 2,320, 18 new nursing homes with a capacity of 1,720, and 5 renovated nursing homes with a capacity of 600.
