Our Minister of Family and Social Services, Derya Yanık, stated that older persons in Adana, Yalova and Artvin were served with the small home type nursing home model and said, "We make older couples feel at home in our small home type nursing homes."
Minister Derya Yanık stated that they designed the care institutions in accordance with the needs of older persons and emphasized that they aimed to design each new institution in accordance with the older persons’ way of use, with features that are accessible and at the same time personalized according to their needs. Minister Yanık said, “Our nursing homes are designed in three different categories as 'site type', 'courtyard type' and 'small house type' projects. The site type is a nursing home model that we have designed to serve older persons who need care and whose body functions have weakened. We planned the courtyard type for older persons who can do their daily work on their own and need more physical activity. This model has been specially designed for older persons who have cognitive function impairments such as dementia. In our small house model, on the other hand, older persons who can move independently and do their own work, who can use electronic household appliances and who do not need constant monitoring in terms of health, are ensured to continue their daily lives in their own living spaces.”
“We make them feel like they are at home”
Stating that in Uşak, Tokat and Zonguldak, care institutions for older persons designed with courtyard type architecture provide service while institutions designed with small house architecture in Adana, Yalova and Artvin, she said: “2+1 (2 bedrooms, 1 common room) are active. Two older persons can stay together in the small house model designed as 1+1 (1 bedroom, 1 common room, kitchen, bathroom and toilet). We make older couples feel at like they are at home in our small home type nursing homes, which are more preferred by couples. Older persons, who lead their lives as if they are in their own homes, make new friends and can have a pleasant time in their gardens.”
“We provide care services to 13,687 older persons in our 168 nursing homes”
Emphasizing that as a Ministry, they continue to work to increase the quality and diversity of services offered to older persons, Minister Yanık said: “We serve older persons not just in institutions, but in their own environment and in the places where they are used to, with an understanding that they can continue their lives under conditions that will make their lives easier. As of September 2022, we offer institutional residential care services to 13,687 older persons in our 168 nursing homes with a capacity of 17,499. In addition, 4,336 older persons benefit from nursing homes affiliated to our Ministry free of charge. As the Ministry, considering our country’s increasing elderly population, we will open 7 residential care institutions and 5 day care and active living centres until the end of 2023.”
