Minister of Family and Social Services Göktaş: "Digital literacy training was provided to 1.923 older persons receiving services from the nursing homes affiliated to the Ministry"


Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş stated that 1.923 older persons were trained within the scope of Digital and Financial Literacy Trainings for Older Persons, which were initiated in line with the vision of active and healthy ageing, and said, "We will continue digital literacy trainings for older persons receiving services from the nursing homes affiliated to the Ministry in order for them to recognize, learn and use the technological approaches that older persons need."

Minister Göktaş stated that as the Ministry, they carried out studies to strengthen the digital skills of older citizens in order for them to adapt to the developing world in line with the vision of active and healthy ageing, and said: "Today, digitalization is becoming increasingly widespread in daily life, it is more important than ever for older persons to recognize, learn and use the technological approaches that is needed. In this context, the Ministry accelerated the work on Digital and Financial Literacy trainings in older persons with the provision of all kinds of needs through online means with the current and technological developments."

Emphasizing that the Ministry aimed to increase the participation of older persons and their families in social life, to improve their independent living skills with digital technological instruments, and to encourage practices to improve their quality of life, Minister Göktaş added: " The training program prepared for the digital and financial literacy competencies of older persons started in 2021 in 5 nursing homes in Istanbul, which was selected as a pilot province. Within the scope of the trainings, which were accelerated with the programs developed later, a total of 1.923 older persons received Digital and Financial Literacy Training in nursing homes and various centers in 43 provinces. We will continue digital literacy trainings for older persons receiving services from nursing homes affiliated to the Ministry in order for them to recognize, learn and use the technological approaches that is neded. We aim to continue the free trainings, in which older persons receiving services from the institutions participate voluntarily, by expanding them to other provinces as well."

"10 Digital Spring Rooms are in service."
Minister Göktaş stated that within the scope of the "Digital Spring Project", which was prepared to improve the digital literacy of older persons receiving services from nursing homes affiliated with the Ministry and to facilitate their adaptation to technology, 10 Digital Spring Rooms were now in service in 9 nursing homes in Ankara, Istanbul, Aydın, Bursa, Izmir, Osmaniye, Samsun and Erzincan. Göktaş said, "Technology rooms allow residents of the nursing home to come together with their loved ones. We are also happy that in these rooms, older persons can actively use technological tools and the internet to meet, see, hear the voice and view the image of their loved ones who are far away."
