Kütahya Health Sciences University and General Directorate of Disability and Elderly Services Discussed Elderly Support Projects at Online Meeting


The online meeting, attended by Prof. Dr. Vural KAVUNCU, Rector of Kutahya Health Sciences University and Dr. Orhan KOÇ, General Manager of Disability and Elderly Services, discussed the adaptation of home care support technologies for the elderly and the applicability of care insurance was held on Thursday, 15.10.2020.

Prof. Dr. Vural KAVUNCU, Rector of Kütahya Health Sciences University, stated that the meeting was organized in order to develop aged care support projects and to implement integration of new methods into home health services within the scope of technological innovations and to study the applicability of sustainable digital projects for home care services for the elderly population, and that the General Directorate of Disability and Elderly Services of the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services has provided very important services in this area.

General Manager of Disability and Elderly Services Dr. Orhan KOÇ; In the coming years, 2 out of 10 people in Turkey will be elderly in a community process, Turkey has a population of 7.5 million elderly people, the majority of elderly people live in rural areas, twenty-seven thousand of them (27,000) received elderly care services, in the last eight years, a very serious change in service understanding and methods, he said.

Compared to many European countries, Turkey's rights-based approach has a significant role to play in this change, thanks to health investments initiated in accordance with the instructions of Mr. President Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN, health infrastructure suitable for solving health problems in almost every region, is effective in the provideing of preventive health services, he noted. 

Dr. Orhan KOÇ pointed out that elderly care services along with health services in Turkey are sampled by many European countries, and that today around 1 million citizens are provided home health care as well as home social services, home health services are undertaken by the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services, and this can be seen as care insurance in a sense. In addition, vefa Social Support Groups, which were created in coordination with the governor's office and prefectures, reached 569,549 households from the day the application began, reaching 569,549 households and supplying all their needs from medicine to food.

Dr. Orhan KOÇ, Elderly Support Program (YADES) with the protection and support of elderly people over 65 who reside in Turkey and need services, bio-psycho social care needs to be made necessary in the places where they live, their lives are facilitated, these services are aimed to be spread throughout the country, elderly support program (YADES) within the scope of the projects for the elderly financially financed, Metropolitan municipalities are partnered with other institutions and organizations or non-governmental organizations , Elderly Support Program (YADES) and home care and social support services are given to the elderly who need social services, day care and home care services for the elderly development (YAGEP) project was carried out on the work, he said.

Dr. Orhan KOÇ also determines that care insurance has been on the agenda of ministries for many years and that studies were carried out on this issue during his time as Vice President of the Social Security Institution, held in 2019. He said the issue of Care Insurance was also discussed here in old age. All care services for the elderly are provided by the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services, resources are transferred to these services, 7,000 of the 13,500 elderly people in aged care centers benefit from this free service, 400,000 elderly people over the age group who live alone under the most disadvantaged age group are being served, all of these are done without care insurance, the elderly economy sector in Turkey is in development, and special housing designs are made for the elderly who are elderly.  

In other speakers, they said that algorithms with biomedical content are adapted to technological tools and equipment, that the use of vibration and emergency call buttons can greatly facilitate the lives of elderly people who have received home care support, that artificial intelligence studies on the subject can be utilization, and that they find it beneficial to continue the work on maintenance insurance and financing.
