General Directorate Of Services For Persons With Disabilities And The Elderly carried out Web Content Accessibility Training


"Web Accessibility Training" was carried out on October 26, 2020 by the Department of Accessibility of the General Directorate of Disability and Elderly Services to design the web pages of public institutions as accessible and to make the existing accessible and to raise awareness about the issue.

While the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services implemented many different activities within the scope of the 2020 Year of Accessibility; he has prepared an "Accessibility Guide" that will create a roadmap for disabled and elderly people to easily access public services.

In this context, in the pandemic process, where the flow of information is updated frequently and many institutions share services and measures, access to information has become more important than ever in order to obtain and understand this information so that everyone can benefit from all the information presented to the community without any distinction.

At the Web Content Accessibility Education Meeting, where Dr. Orhan KOÇ, General Manager of Disability and Elderly Services, noted the importance of accessibility in the pandemic process, article 7 of the Law No. 5378 on People with Disabilities was announced. Article "Compliance with accessibility standards is ensured in planning, design, construction, manufacturing, licensing and inspection processes to ensure accessibility of disabled people in the built environment. Private and public public transport systems and private and public transport with nine or more seats except the driver's seat must be accessible to people with disabilities. Information services and information and communication technology are accessible to people with disabilities."  in accordance with the provisions of the disability legislation in this context, it was stated that accessible design should be made in the plan and project stages.  

In addition, at the Web Content Accessibility Education meeting, all kinds of visual, written and electronic publications for disabled people should be in accessible format, so the publications made through web pages should be in accordance with accessibility standards, information requested to be delivered to everyone was presented and disabled people could access this information without needing anyone's help.

According to the regulations in our legislation, the necessity of ensuring the accessibility of disabled people in the fields of information and communication technologies and the web pages of the relevant units of the ministries and related and related institutions were mentioned.

In this context; On October 26, 2020, between 14:00 and 16:30, "Web Accessibility Education" organized by the Department of Accessibility of the General Directorate of Disability and Elderly Services was conducted online training by Prof. Dr. Yeliz YEŞİLADA to design the web pages of public institutions as accessible and to make the existing accessible and to raise awareness about the issue. The training was attended by 210 web content management system officers and unit managers/branch managers working in affiliated, relevant and related institutions of all ministries and ministries.

Participants of the Web Content Accessibility Training meeting were informed under the headings "What is Web Accessibility?", "Who are the Web Accessibility Stakeholders?", "What are the Web Accessibility Standard and Guidelines?" and "What are the Web Accessibility Assessment methods?"
