General Directorate of Services for Persons with Disabilities and the Elderly Attended the 9th TRNC Barrier-Free Informatics Days


Önal İNALTEKİN, Deputy General Manager of Disabled and Elderly Services, and Tayyar KUZ, Head of R&D and Statistics Department; They participated in the TRNC Barrier-Free Information Days, which took place for the ninth time on 13-14 December 2021 in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

The 9th TRNC Barrier-Free Informatics Days started on Monday, December 13, 2021 with the visits of the President and Prime Minister of the TRNC. It continued with the opening ceremony and speeches on Tuesday, December 14, 2021. 9. In the TRNC Barrier-Free Informatics Days, Near East University TRNC Barrier-Free Informatics Platform Coordinator Prof. Dr. Zehra ALTINAY, Manisa Celal Bayar University Lecturer and Turkey Barrier-Free Informatics Platform Coordinator Dr. Lecturer Mustafa Özhan KALAÇ, Deputy General Director of Services for Persons with Disabilities and the Elderly at the Ministry of Family and Social Services Önal İNALTEKİN, Rector of Manisa Celal Bayar University and Term Chairman of the Interuniversity Board Prof. Dr. Ahmet ATAÇ, Near East University Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer SANLIDAG and TRNC President Ersin TATAR made speeches.

Önal İNALTEKİN: “Accessibility is one of the most important requirements of participation in social life in the modern world.”

Önal İNALTEKİN, Deputy General Director of Services for Persons with Disabilities and the Elderly at the Ministry of Family and Social Services, said that accessibility is one of the most important requirements of participation in social life in the modern world and emphasized that in order to benefit from the education, health and employment rights offered to the society, it is necessary to access the places and communication opportunities where these rights are offered. Önal İNALTEKİN said, “Accessibility is one of the most important factors for ensuring the equal participation of persons with disabilities with other individuals without discrimination in all areas of social life and for implementing rights-based policies.”

İNALTEKİN said, “With our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN, signing the UN convention on the rights of persons with disabilities in 2007, Turkey became one of the first countries to sign this convention. Positive discrimination towards persons with disabilities was constitutionally guaranteed in 2010, an accessibility system was established in 2013, and 2020 was declared the year of accessibility.”

Tayyar KUZ, Head of R&D and Statistics Department of the Ministry of Family and Social Services, General Directorate of Services for Persons with Disabilities and the Elderly, made a presentation titled "Accessibility Studies in Informatics in Turkey" and "2030 Barrier-Free Vision" at the 9th KKTC Barrier-Free Informatics Days. He conveyed information about the “Barrier-Free Vision Document” and stated that the breakthrough of our country in the field of disability in 2005 will be taken further with the Document, which is a holistic roadmap and emphasizes strong coordination.

Ahmet AKDENİZ, Head of the Committee for Persons with Disabilities of the Presidency of the TRNC, made a presentation titled "Accessibility Studies in Informatics in the TRNC" and Close Dogru University Faculty Member, TRNC Barrier-Free Informatics Platform Coordinator Prof. Dr. Zehra ALTINAY made a presentation titled "TRNC Barrier-Free Informatics Studies” at the 9th TRNC Barrier-Free Informatics Days, which ended with "Awareness training seminar for teachers" on Wednesday, December 15, 2021.
