Within the scope of the March 1-7 Earthquake Week activities, the material examination program prepared to reduce disaster risks for individuals with special needs was carried out on 03.03.2021.
AFAD Deputy Chairman Hamza TASDELEN, AFAD officials, General Manager Dr. Orhan KOÇ and the officials of our General Directorate of Disaster and Emergency Management participated in the "Material Review For Disaster Risk Reduction for Individuals with Special Needs" Program.
General Manager Dr. Orhan KOÇ; Emphasizing the importance of preventive and preventive approach in disaster and emergency management in the world, he stated that this approach is given priority in our country and that in additionary policies and studies covering disabled and elderly individuals are guided in the studies within this scope.
In his speech, General Manager KOÇ stated that non-urgent situations are vital for disabled and elderly individuals for many of us in our daily lives. He stated that accessibility is the most important concept, covering all individuals with vision, hearing, physical and mental disabilities and stating intervention evacuation practices in this context. In this respect, "Ensuring the Accessibility of Emergency Management Plans for Persons with Disabilities" within the scope of IV. 180 DAY EXECUTION PROGRAM is one of the main objectives of our general directorate to establish a basis for the preparation of a standard/legislation on "Ensuring accessibility in disaster and emergency systems and evacuation" in the future. By calling on all public institutions and organizations, accessibility studies are a duty, not a blessing.
AFAD Acting President Hamza TASDELEN; "In terms of disasters, he stated that special attention should be paid to disabled and elderly individuals who are among the most damaged disadvantaged groups, and gave information about the materials developed for physically disabled and visually impaired individuals with the "Let's Overcome Obstacles Against Disasters Together" project of AFAD Eskişehir Provincial Directorate.
TASDELEN; AFAD has mentioned the importance of trainings for people with disabilities with its distance education module.
The program ended with a photo shoot after a video screening of tents and containers designed for the living space of people with disabilities after the disaster within the scope of the "If I Can Access It, I Am Safe" project.
The program has also been translated into sign language for our deaf citizens.
