Dyslexia Week, General Directorate of Disability and Elderly Services and Dyslexia Learning Difficulties Association met at e-Panel
General Directorate of Disability and Elderly Services carried out e-Panel to raise awareness on 05-11 October Dyslexia Awareness Week and 8 October World Dyslexia Day.
To the event of 'World Dyslexia Week', an online e-Panel was organized by the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services, the General Directorate of Disability and Elderly Services and the Dyslexia Learning Disability Association, with the participation of children's homes site managers and professional staff and academicians, members of associations and families working in the field of dyslexia.
Faik YILDIRIM, Deputy General Manager of Disability and Elderly Services, said in the opening speech of the online e-Panel; "Dyslexia, which is defined as a special learning impairment that causes problems in reading, writing and language skills despite being at the normal or superior level of intelligence, is often observed as a reading disorder, most individuals experiencing this problem also have attention deficit and hyperactivity, early diagnostics and correct educational methods are important in controlling dyslexia," he said.
YILDIRIM, Deputy General Manager of Disability and Elderly Services, said that early diagnosis plays an important role in preventing children's academic lives from being adversely affected, that not only their academic lives, but also their psychosocial development due to academic failure can be negatively affected, that early diagnosis is possible with the awareness of family and teachers, and that the cooperation of schools, family, psychologists, psychiatrists and special education specialists is seen as important and necessary in the approach to the problem. YILDIRIM also gave information about the work carried out by the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services in the field of Dyslexia.
Within the scope of World Dyslexia Awareness Week, Faik YILDIRIM, Deputy General Manager of Disability and Elderly Services, noted that "Dyslexia Awareness Symposium" was held in Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO) Hall on November 6, 2019 in cooperation with our General Directorate and Dyslexia Learning Disability Association, and stated that the symposium was attended by NGOs working in the field of dyslexia with our General Directorate, representatives of public institutions, academicians, individuals with dyslexia and their families. 25.10.2019 support letter dated 25.10.2019 was given by our General Directorate of Dyslexia Learning Difficulties Association on projects and other studies, and said that cooperation efforts are continuing with the Turkish Dyslexia Foundation.

At the panel, Atıf TOKAR, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association for Learning Difficulties, Murat AKAR, Head of Guidance Services department of the Ministry of National Education, Dr. Tamer AYDEMİR, Faculty Member of Pamukkale University-Special Education Department, Belma ATAK, Head of The Department of Candidates with Disabilities, Prof. Dr. Atilla CAVKAYTAR, Anadolu University Special Education Faculty Member, made their presentations. The program ended after mutual questions and answers.
