"Barrier Free Living Through Sports" Project is Implemented


Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş announced that the " Barrier-Free Living through Sports" program would apply ten different sportive tests to persons with disabilities to determine their physical and sportive predispositions.

Speaking at the " Barrier Free Living through Sports Program" held at Saray Barrier Free Living Care and Rehabilitation Center, Minister Göktaş stated that the Ministry carried out many projects for persons with special needs to lead a better life.

In this context, Göktaş stated that the Ministry of Youth and Sports launched the “Barrier Free Living through Sports Program" with the contributions of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and continued: "With this program, which we define as rehabilitation through sports, we want to emphasize that there is a sports branch that everyone can practice. We will apply 10 different sportive tests to each person according to their disability and determine their physical and sportive predispositions. Categories will be established in line with the statistical information to be applied with the scores obtained from the tests. We will direct a group of individuals who can perform sports in the highest category to the appropriate branches."

Stating that the Ministry would ensure the coordination of the training program, which would include different sports branches, with branch coaches assigned by the sports club of the Ministry, Göktaş also noted that the Ministry would strengthen the sports clubs of the Ministry of Family and Social Services in each province.

Stating that the athletes won 26 medals and 4 cups in the World Deaf Wrestling Championships and became the world champion for the first time in history as a team, Göktaş congratulated the athletes and teams with disabilities who won medals and became champions in international tournaments in various sports branches.

Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş said, "We are all proud of the achievements of persons with special needs."

Answering the questions of press members about the project following the program, Minister Göktaş stated that the athletes both discovered their talents and were happy.

Göktaş said, "We will continue to produce world champions with the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Knowing the healing and rehabilitation role of sports, we will expand such awareness programs across Türkiye. This is a 6-stage project. Today we are conducting the first stage, and in the coming period, we will continue to have beautiful athletes in much better places. We will support them."

Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak and AK Parti Deputy Chairman Jülide Sarıeroğlu also attended the program.

Ministers Göktaş and Bak played table tennis and goalball with the children at the end of the program.
