Accessibility Workshops: Web Accessibility Trainings Continue


“Web Content Accessibility Trainings” continue. After four trainings, the first workshop in the second phase was held on October 7, 2021 with the participation of the Governorships, Affiliated Institutions and Provincial Directorates of 27 Provinces.

 “Accessibility Workshops: Web Accessibility Trainings” initiated by the General Directorate of Services for Persons with Disabilities and Elderly in June, with the aim of ensuring the accessibility and usability of information and communication technologies, especially in a format that can be understood by users with different characteristics, continues.

It is aimed to design the web pages of the institutions as accessible and to make the existing ones accessible.

In the first phase of the ten trainings planned to be organized; Presidency and Affiliated Institutions, Regulatory and Supervisory Institutions and Institutions such as RTÜK, EMRA, BRSA, representatives from High Judicial Bodies; Ministries and Affiliated Institutions; Representatives of YÖK and Universities, 27 Provincial Governorships, their affiliated institutions and provincial directorates participated. Web content management system officers, web designers, web developers, software developers and unit supervisors/branch managers are invited to online trainings.

As a result of the trainings with intense participation, it is aimed to raise awareness for the institutions, to design the web pages of the institutions as accessible in line with the information received and to make the existing ones accessible. METU Northern Cyprus Campus Faculty Member Assoc. Yeliz YEŞİLADA made presentation on “What is Web Accessibility?”, “Who are Web Accessibility Stakeholders?”, “What are Web Accessibility Standards and Guidelines?” and “What are Web Accessibility Assessment methods?”  and participants were informed.

 The second phase of the workshop continued with the training held on October 7, 2021. The training, to which governorships, affiliated institutions, and provincial directorates of Giresun, Gümüşhane, Hakkari, Hatay, Isparta, Mersin, İstanbul, İzmir, Kars, Kastamonu, Kayseri, Kırklareli, Kırşehir, Kocaeli, Konya, Kütahya, Malatya, Manisa, Kahramanmaraş, Mardin, Muğla, Muş, Nevşehir, Niğde, Ordu were invited, was held online with 610 participants. It is planned to continue the trainings with the participation of governorships, municipalities and professional organizations in the nature of public institutions.
