"Accessibility Guide" for Architectural Designs


The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services has implemented many different activities within the scope of the 2020 Year of Accessibility; he has also prepared the "Accessibility Guide", which will create a roadmap for easy access to public services for disabled and elderly people.

Family Labour and Social Services Minister Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK, disabled citizens to have a more comfortable life and certain standards to be implemented, she said very much. Minister SELÇUK, "As it is known, 2020 was declared as the Year of Accessibility by our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan. We have also published the Accessibility Guide for architectural designs in the Year of Accessibility, making it available to architects and engineers working as public institutions, municipalities, academics, students and designers."

Guide with Written and Visual Content

Minister Selcuk underlined that the guide is a guide with written and visual content based on national standards and includes the latest regulations in the legislation.

Guide Can Be Used as Source Publication in Universities

Minister Selcuk "The guide will raise awareness for both designers and practitioners. At the same time, resources can be used as a publication for the technical education departments of universities."

Accessibility Standards for Building Gardens and Interiors are Explained

On the other hand, the guide consists of sections where all physical spaces and equipment in a building are discussed. The first section under the heading "Measurements in Accessibility and Basic Design Rules" describes the principles that must be included in the design to ensure the mobility of citizens and the elderly in different obstacle groups.

"Building Inner Circle" and "Car Parks" sections describe accessibility standards for building gardens and interiors. The "Building Entrances" and "Doors and Windows" sections include accessibility arrangements that need to be made for entrances, interior doors and windows.

AccessibilityConditions in Kitchen, Bathroom and Rooms

"In-Building Vertical Circulation", "Alarms and Building Installation", "Markings" and "Palpable Walking Surface Signs" sections include elevator and ladder and alternative access methods and arrangements; The "Other Uses" section has accessibility conditions that must be applied in the kitchen, bathroom and rooms.
