8. Studies on the Accessibility of Information and Communication Technologies were evaluated in KKTC Unhindered Information Days


Hosted by Near East University, "8th KKTC Unhindered Information Days" event was held online on December 25th, 2020 in cooperation with Manisa Celal Bayar University, KKTC Unhindered Information Platform and Turkey Unhindered Information Platform.

The program can be found in the AÇSHB General Manager of Disability and Elderly Services  Dr. Orhan KOÇ, Rector of Manisa Celal Bayar University Prof. Dr. Ahmet ATAÇ, Near East University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer ŞAMLIDAĞ, KKTC Unhindered Information Platform Coordinator Prof. Dr. Zehra ALTINAY, Turkey Unhindered Information Platform Coordinator Dr.  Mustafa Özhan KALAÇ started with the opening speeches. Then the opening panel was held.  The program was broadcast live on youtube channel disabled and elderly services.

In the opening speeches, Dr. Orhan KOÇ, General Manager of Disability and Elderly Services, started by emphasizing that accessibility is one of the most basic requirements of participation in social life. After talking about the importance of accessibility, he mentioned the content of the regulations made as the General Directorate on accessibility and stated that these studies made within the framework of the Accessibility Awards Campaign reached a wide audience and stated that this organization will contribute to the studies.

In the Opening Panel titled "Unhindered Informatics Studies in Turkey and KKTC" moderated by Prof. Dr. Fahriye ALTINAY, Coordinator of TRNC Unhindered Information Platform, AÇSHB General Directorate of Disability and Elderly Services Accessibility Department Head V. Dr. Deniz CAGLAYAN GÜMÜŞ; in the last year, he conveyed the studies on the accessibility of information and communication technologies carried out by the General Directorate. In addition, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin UZUNBOYLU from the KKTC Higher Education Planning, Supervision, Accreditation and Coordination Board and Melek KANLI from the Trnc Ministry of National Education gave information about the studies carried out in KKTC.

Three other parallel session panels titled "Activities of NON-Governmental Organizations", "Monitoring of Disability Rights" and "Projects and Services" were held later in the program. In the last session, a panel on "Exemplary Unhindered Information Practices in Turkey and KKTC" was moderated by The Vice Rector of The University of Kyrenia, Prof. Dr. Gökmen DAĞLI and attended by Maltepe University Professor Prof. Dr. Gonca TELLİ, Near East University Professor Prof. Dr. Zehra ALTINAY, Turkish Presidency Senior Advisor, Banu Türkuğur ŞAHİN from Beştepe without Barriers and Emre DAŞGIN, President of the Association for the Visually Impaired in Education.

At the event, 4 different panels were organized in Turkey and KKTC with the participation of NGOs, relevant ministries, institutions and organizations and universities in the main topics of unhindered IT studies, non-governmental organizations activities, monitoring of disability rights and projects and services. The 8th KKTC Unhindered Informatics Days, in which the current studies, legal regulations, successful examples and problems in the field of information technologies and services for the disabled in Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus were discussed, ended with the best wishes and wishes of the participants.

Simultaneous sign language translation was made in the program.
